The owners of a North Tongass Highway residence
were credited for saving their own home late Thursday night. The South
Tongass Fire Department, North Tongass Fire Department and Ketchikan
Fire Department sent equipment to the home when they were dispatched
at 10:10 p.m.
Ketchikan Fire Chief Rich Leipfert said the owners
fought the fire with buckets and had it under control or out by the
time firefighters arrived. A heating tape is suspected to be the cause
of the fire. Damages to Steve Phillips’ home was confined to
the basement no injuries were reported.
