During the early
morning hours of July 31, 2003 the Ketchikan Fire Department
responded to a two alarm fire at a home on Deermount Street.
Heavy fire in the upper floor of the building was reported
by first responding units. When Fire Chief Rich Leipfert
arrived, he immediately called for a second alarm.
The focus of the
firefighters who arrived on scene was 1) searching for victims,
and 2) to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
According to the official fire department report, there
were no injuries, and none of the surrounding structures
were damaged.
